Here’s a quick look at how PurinaCare® Pet Health Insurance policies work and some of the questions we hear most often.
First of all, we offer two plans, PurinaCare® Plus Preventive Care and PurinaCare® without Preventive Care. Both are simple to understand, easy-to-use, and have a variety of deductible levels to fit most budgets. Each is designed to help your pet enjoy a lifetime of health & happiness.
Select Topic
Is my pet eligible for PurinaCare® insurance?
Dogs and cats that are at least 8 weeks old are eligible for PurinaCare® insurance.
What if I don't know my pet's age?
This is a common problem, especially with pet adoptions, but your veterinarian should be able to estimate your pet’s age based on physical characteristics. Just get a physical exam from your veterinarian that includes an age estimate.
Will I have to provide my pet’s medical records to obtain PurinaCare® coverage?
Not ordinarily. In some cases, we may request medical records to clarify pre-existing conditions. We may also request medical records in some cases to assist with claims processing. Our goal is to make sure that all policyholders receive the maximum benefits available under their plan while minimizing any paper work on the part of the provider.
Do you offer multiple pet discounts?
Yes, you can receive 5% off policies if two pets are covered, 10% off if three or more pets are covered.
Do you have more than one deductible?
Yes. There are several deductible options for both plans. The higher the deductible you choose, the lower the monthly premium.
Is the deductible per year or incident?
The deductible is calculated on an annual basis.
Are there any waiting periods after I sign up before the policy takes effect?
Dogs and cats under 8 weeks of age are not eligible for coverage.
Afterwards, there are waiting periods for some kinds of care. There’s no waiting period for preventive care if you have a PurinaCare® Plus Preventive Care policy. You can submit claims for covered preventive services that occur on or after the policy effective date.
There’s a 48-hour waiting period after the policy effective date for accident coverage and a 14-day waiting period for claims as a result of illness.
